Evelyn Boyd Granville faced several obstacles throughout her career, including racial and gender discrimination in a predominantly white, male-dominated field of mathematics and computing. As one of the first African American women to earn a Ph.D. in mathematics in the United States, she encountered skepticism and limited opportunities in academia and industry. Additionally, Granville had to navigate societal expectations and barriers related to her race and gender while striving for recognition and success in her field.
