There are especially three groups of expressionist artists that were important in the early 20th century: - The Fauves, a group around Henri Matisse, e.g. A Derain, M Vlaminck and others. - Die Brücke, a German group, starting in Dresden 1905 and moving to Berlin in 1910. Members were EL Kirchner, K Schmidt-Rottluff, E Heckel, O Mueller. - In Munich Der blaue Reiter was formed in 1910, W Kandinsky, F Marc, A Macke, m Werefkin, A v Jawlensky, G Münter. Important expressionist artists, not belonging to any group were e.g. the German E Nolde and the Norwegian E Munch.
