Guinan (played by Whoopi Goldberg) is El-Aurian, a humanoid race of "listeners." Few El-Aurians have ever been seen on Star Trek. The first one other than Guinan to appear was the con-man Martus Mazur in the Deep Space Nine episode "Rivals". After that, the only other time we ever saw El-Aurians was in the 23rd century portion of the film Star Trek Generations, where we saw a number of them as refugees fleeing from the Borg's attack on their homeworld.
The Q are a godlike race in Star Trek who exist in the Q continuum and have extra special powers. They appear in Star Trek the Next Generation, Star Trek Deep Space 9, and Star Trek Voyager.
