"Method" Acting refers to what was called "The Method", a set of rehearsal techniques beginning in Russian Theater in the early 20th century and popularized in the New York acting community by Marlon Brando, Lee Strausberg, Stella Adler, James Dean and many others. All modern acting techniques are based on "the Method", and Stanislavski's books are still used in conservatories and theater programs.
