The "thing" that identifies ghosts in Fire Red/ Leaf Green is called A Silph Scope. You must first go to the Game Corner in Celadon City and go to the Rocket Hideout (yiu have to press a button behind the poster in the northeast corner of the game place). Then, you have to travel through the hideout's mazes and panels until you eventually reach Rocket Leader, Giovanni. You must battle him. Once you win, he'll leave and the Silph Scope will be in a Pokeball next to you. Go to the Pokemon cemetery in Lavender Town and travel all the way up to rescue Mr. Fuji (you'll have to battle Gary, but you'll be able to identify ghosts) Once you reach the top, the mother of Cubone will appear, Marowak. Unfortuanaley , you can't catch it, so you have to defeat it. It'll be at Level 30, so it might be abit tough. After you defeat Marowak, you must beat about 3 rocket grunts to reach Fuji. After you save him, you'll end up at his house and he'll give you a Pokeflute. Now, you can move those Snorlaxs outta the way, but I advise you catch them. They're at level 30 and have high HP.
