I have such a collection, complete. I was told recently (June 2008) by a bookseller near New York City that as it's an English translation, not the original French, it's really not worth much. Maybe $2.50 per book. Of course I found this question on Wikianswers because I'm not completely satisfied with that answer and was looking for another. I assumed this collection was worth much more.
It's disturbing to me that this collection is valued by interior designers as shelf filler. I've heard this many times. Of course this was the case when they were first published.

The First Edition cards are more expensive because there are fewer of them. They only make one First Edition release and after that it's all unlimited. Fewer copies of something makes it more rare and hence, more valuable. Solution First Edition are somewhat more expensive because you get a little extra writing on the cards. Even from the original country Japan, they don't use 1st Edition cards because theirs no such thing. Either that or the cards I got were just Unlimited Edition Japanese cards anyway.
Rarity and usefulness are completely unrelated.
