In addition he wrote many popular books defending basic Christianity, such as Mere Christianity and The Problem of Pain. He was a well-known lecturer and gave many talks and lectures in addition to his teaching at Oxford and Cambridge, and these lectures were well-attended. Finally, the story of his marriage was made into a move, "Shadowlands" with Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger. It was also a very popular film.
