Klaus Barbie was a high-ranking Nazi officer who served as the head of the Gestapo in Lyon, France during World War II. He was responsible for atrocities committed against the French Resistance and Jews, including torture and deportation to concentration camps. After the war, Barbie fled to South America, where he lived under false identities until his capture in 1983. He was later tried and convicted for war crimes and died in prison in 1991.

Nathaniel Lyon (1818-1861) graduated West Point in 1841, and served in the Mexican-American War and Indian conflicts. He died in Missouri in 1861 while fighting pro-Confederate forces within the state.
