In the first book, Professor Quirrel tried to knock him off. Members of the Slytherin Quidditch team also tried to knock him off as well throughout the years.

Proffesor Quirrel was posessed by Voldemort.

If you were a real Harry Potter fan you would have read the book. They left because Harry was about to turn 17 in a few days. Meaning that the "Fidealeus" Charm would be broken causing his magical protection to dissapear. So Harry or his family would be open game to the death eaters.
