His efforts aimed to find a compromise to avert the impending conflict, emphasizing dialogue over violence. Although his initiatives did not ultimately prevent the war, they highlighted the deep divisions within the nation and the urgent need for reconciliation. Blair's commitment to peace reflects the broader struggle of many at the time to seek alternatives to armed conflict.

Johan Galtung, a prominent peace researcher, argues that world peace can be achieved through addressing structural violence and fostering positive peace, which goes beyond mere absence of conflict. He emphasizes the importance of understanding and transforming the underlying social, economic, and political injustices that lead to conflict. Israel is powerful and has no need of peace from the Palestinians. Israel's true interest is in expanding it's borders and ethnically cleansing the Palestinians. Peace is generations away.

Francis P. Blair was the father of the Union Postmaster General. He had excellent Republican Party credentials in that he was one of the founders of the Republican Party. Blair had also been a friend of Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Blair approached President Lincoln in 1864 concerning his plan to visit with Jefferson Davis and work out a plan for peace. His plan was to reunite the North and the South by forming a joint force to invade Mexico. In 1864, France had created a puppet regime in Mexico under the appointed ruler Maximilian. Blair contended that this was a violation of the Monroe Doctrine and a united army of Southern and Northern troops should invade Mexico and end the French puppet state.
