There have been six manned flights to the moon (Apollos 11, 12, 14, 15 16, and 17). Neil Armstrong (Apollo 11's Commander) was the first person to walk on the moon. Alan Shepherd (Apollo 14's Commander) was America's first man into space. Dr Harrison Schmitt (Apollo 17's Lunar Module Pilot) was the first scientist-astronaut to land on Moon - Dr Harrison Schmitt who received a Ph.D. in Geology from Harvard University in 1964
