W. C. Fields (1880-1946) was an American actor and comedian originally named William Claude Dukenfield. He left home at the age of 11 and started in show business at the age of 14 as a juggler and a comedian in the US and Europe. He appeared in many movies from 1915 until 1944, as well as being a starring attraction at the Ziegfeld Follies in New York City from 1915 to 1921.
