The White League and the Knights of the White Camellia were white supremacist groups that emerged in the Southern United States during the Reconstruction era after the Civil War. The White League was founded in 1874 in Louisiana to oppose Republican Reconstruction policies and to restore white Democratic control, often using violence and intimidation against Black citizens and their allies. The Knights of the White Camellia, formed around the same time, shared similar goals and engaged in acts of terror to undermine Reconstruction efforts. Both groups played significant roles in the violent backlash against African American rights and the eventual establishment of Jim Crow laws.
Camellia Okpodu was born in 1964.
