Lieutenant Colonel William Travis, Army of the Republic of Texas, with about 180 volunteers, defended the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. All the defenders, including Travis, died when Mexican General Santa Anna attacked the mission, February 23 through March 6, 1836.

Gordon Cartwright Jennings was the oldest Defender of The Alamo, Bexar, Texas, He died during the battle of the Alamo. He fought along with 188 other defenders against 4000 mexican infantry, leaving 1600 mexican infantry dead at the end of the seige. He was born in May 1782 in Windham,CT. His ancestors trace back to Joshua Jennings one of the first settlers in Hartford in the 1630's. His Brother Nicholas arrived in New England in 1634. Joshua arriving the next year with his other brother and father. no mention is made of his mother. (and he is my GGGG Grandfather).
