He was also influenced by the work of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, as well as by his own clinical observations of personality. Additionally, Allport was influenced by his dissatisfaction with earlier trait theories that he felt were too broad and lacking in specificity.
He received his B.A. in 1937 from Duke University and his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1941 under the guidance of Gordon Allport.
