Where did Jackie Chan come from?

Jackie was born Chan Kong-sang which literally means 'born in Hong Kong'. When he was at the Peking Opera School he was given the name Yuen Lo by the master Jim Yuen. All the students were given the name Yuen ... hence Yuen Biao, Yuen Wah etc. When Jackie started making movies he needed an onscreen name and 'borrowed' Sammo Hung's opera school name 'Yuen Lung'. After leaving Hong Kong and temporarily giving up on making movies he moved to Australia to be reunited with his parents. While there he attended Dickson College where he was given the name 'Paul'. Later he worked on a building site where he was introduced as 'Little Jack' because no-one knew how to pronounce his Chinese name and the person who got him the job was called Jack. 'Little Jack' soon contracted to 'Jackie' and 'Jackie Chan' was born. When Jackie returned to Hong Kong at the invitation of Willie Chan to make 'New Fist of Fury' Jackie continued to use 'Jackie Chan' as his English screen name. His Chinese screen name is Chen Long (Mandarin) or Sing Lung (Cantonese). At first 'Jackie' was spelled 'Jacky' until someone pointed out that 'Jacky' was the girl's spelling.

What is Jackie Chan's favorite Kung Fu form?

It seems like a heck of a lot, but actually, he has not studied a martial art since he was 10. He learned some of his style at the Peking Acting school. He doesn't appear to hold an official rank in any style and is official biography doesn't specify any style. Given his training in Hong Kong, it could be guessed that it was a Southern Style. My favorite film of his is Drunken Master 1978 directed by Yuen Woo Ping check it out you will see what he knowsJackie in various interviews has said that he has trained in Northern Style and Southern Style Kungfu. He has also trained in Hapkido, Taekwando, Karate, Boxing and various other martial arts. He claims to like 'Bak Mei' the most. He can be seen doing 'Drunken Boxing' or 'Hung Gar' in Drunken Master. He does 'Dragon Style' in Dragon Fist.

Is Jackie Chan better than Bruce Lee?

Jackie was in several of Bruce Lee's films as a stuntman and extra. He was in 'Fist of Fury' as a student. He was in 'Enter the Dragon' and faced Bruce Lee in the underground fight. Bruce hits Jackie unconscious by accident. In Fist of Fury Jackie doubles for Suzuki in the scene where Suzuki is kicked through the screen door by Bruce Lee.

Did Jackie Chan and the director get along well in the movie Fist of Fury?

Jackie Chan was just a stuntman in Fist of Fury. He would have just listened to what the Director and Stunt Coordinator told him to do. If you are talking about New Fist of Fury - Jackie's first movie with Lo Wei and the remake of Fist of Fury with Jackie in the lead role - the answer again would be that he just listened. It was his first movie as a lead actor with Lo Wei and his last chance to make a success of making movies. He had 2 years to prove himself in the industry after which he had to return to Australia to his parents. Source: I am Jackie Chan. My Life in Action.

When did Jackie Chan star in his first movie?

This is a difficult question to answer because there are three answers. In his book "I Am Jackie Chan' Jackie wrote that he had a starring role in a movie made by a company that went bankrupt before the picture was finished when he was about 16/17 years old. Naturally the film never saw the light of day. Then he was cast in the lead of "New Fist of Fury" when he signed with Lo Wei.but the movie that Jackie Chan is perhaps best known for is "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow" which was the first movie that really had any success and made him a star.
