I dont know about having a patent but Maurice Seiderman worked in a plastic like Geon paste of his own recipe making masks for the movie industry. altough called a makeup man he was really more of a sculptor. Before he made the masks for Citizen Kane, he was experimenting with the rubber and early vinyls of his day. He was hired I believe by Ideal and made at least 2 dolls for them. One is a cowboy head hands and boots with a checkered cloth body. His signature is hidden on the head ring under the body so unless this doll was taken apart no one would know it was an original Maurice Seiderman doll. He went on to be a co creator and become one of the men to make the first pair of soft contact lenses. Unfortunatly his product does not age extremely well and the stuff becomes sticky, needs to be cleaned often and powdered frequently to fare well.
