Thespesius occidentalis ("Western Wonder") is the name given to the fossil of a hadrosaur, or "duckbill" dinosaur, found in South Dakota by the American palaeontologist Joseph Leidy, in 1856. The fossil consists of some caudal (tail) vertebrae and a phalanx (the little bones in your fingers and toes). Thespesius is what is called a doubtful name or "nomen dubium", a fossil too fragmentary to be very useful. However, Thespesius is historically important because it is one of the first fossils found in the region that such famous dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops were later discovered in.
