When do you get exp share?

Generation I (Red, Blue, Yellow, Fire Red, Leaf Green):In the gatehouse between Fuchsia City and Route 15 (the east exit of Fuchsia City), you will find one of Professor Oak's aides. He has the Exp. Share, and will give it to you when you talk to him, but only if you have registered at least 50 Pokémon in your PokéDex. In Red, Blue, and Yellow, however, the mechanic allowing Pokémon to hold items was not invented yet, so the item you obtain is the Exp. All, which divides experience among your entire party.
