Optimus Prime was originally Orion Pax (Or depending on which comic continuity you follow, he was Optronix, or just plain old Optimus). No one knows when Orion Pax was created, but when he was a young Cybertronian dock worker, he was brutally murdered by Megatron. Shortly after, the Autobot leader Alpha Trion rebuilt him into Optimus Prime, as that was when he received the Autobot Matrix of Leadership (the only way to get the name Prime in your name as an Autobot). This all happened 9 million years ago.
