Elizabeth I of England died on the 24th March 1603 between 2 and 3 in the morning at Richmound Palace at the age of 69.

Her death came after a long peroid in which she had been suffering from deppresion due to the death of many old freinds, and which in turn she herself became unwell. She most likely became unwell with the flu, a common course of death in the day. Elizabeth I in the lead up to her death settled in her rooms on a pile of pillows in a deep depression, refusing food, water and medicine. A member of her council, Robert Cecil stated she was "settled and [in] unremovable melancholy". She refused to take to her bed most likely terrified she would die if she laid on her bed. After days of refusing the essential needs to live, she took to her bed, her throat had severe and one would assume painful ulcers in it, contributing to her death. She died clutching the hand of a priest who sat at her side until her death.
