Who was Antonia maury?

She was an astronomer, and more importantly, she is another of the forgotten women scientists who deserve to be remembered, along with her colleague Annie Jump Cannon. Maury came from a family of scientists, and after graduating from Vassar College in 1887 (a time when most women still did not attend college), she went to work at the Harvard College Observatory, where she observed and catalogued over 600 stars. She was the first female astronomer to be given credit for her work (male scientists tended to downplay, ignore, or take credit for the work their female colleagues did) and her name was listed in the Harvard Annals in 1897. She continued her research into the spectroscopic analysis of binary stars, and in 1943, the American Astronomical Association gave her an award for her years of research.
