Where do you catch Charmander in Pokemon HeartGold?

You can not catch charmander in any of the two game's (HeartGold,SoulSilver). But you can obtain a charmander. 1# beat all 8 johto gym's 2# beat all kanto gym's 3# go to Mt.silver and go to the very top of it and beat the trainer called Red. His Pokémon are (Pikachu lv.88 Venusaur lv.84 Charizard lv.84 Blastoise lv 84 Lapras lv.80 Snorlax lv.82). After beating Red Go to Pallet town Go in to the lab and there will be Prof.Oak Talk to him and he will give you a choice co can get (charmander,bulbesaur or squrtle).

I think that you have to either complete the national pokedex or defeat the Johto Pokemon League. Hope this helps.
you can get charmander from professer oak after you get all 16 gym badges an beat Red on mount silver
you can get bulbasaur, charmander or squirtle in heart gold and soul silver after you beat red at the top of mount silver. After you beat him head to professor oak in pallet town and he will say that you can pick one of the three.
first you have to beat red, then after the credits, go to profesor oak and he will gift you one of the three kanto starter Pokemon

also you can visit Stephen in silf co and he will give one of the three honen starter Pokemon

professor oak will give you a choice of one of the three kanto starters once you have got all 16 badges and defeated red in mt silver
beat red then go to professer oak and he wil let you pick bulbasaur, charmander or squrtile.
After you beat Red you can go to Oak's lab and he'll give you one of the Kanto starters.
When you have obtained all 16 gym badges and have defeated Red at Mt. Silver, you go to Pallet Town and talk to Prof. Oak. He'll let you choose one of Kanto's starter Pokemon. Choose Charmander. Either that because Charmander is a starter Pokemon and cannot be found in the wild.
