Maybe the word has different meanings, but the Fountainhead was more years than I can recall a restaurant of the snack-bar type, managed by Sealtest, on the PATH system at the Journal Square terminus. it was inside the turnstile area so was only accessible to Path passengers. It has been gone since about l97l.

What is the significance of the title the Fountainhead in Ayn Rand's novel?

A fountainhead is the source from which a stream of water emerges. Howard Roark is this the essence of this concept. His creative, original, and self worthy energy prevail throughout the story. He a creative force, the beginning of all that is good and noble in this world. A Fountainhead is also a stone that is sometimes used for countertops. Roark also, early on in the story, works in a stone quarry. The book's title is a reference to Rand's statement that "man's ego is the fountainhead of human progress".
