You can catch it on the way to the Pokemon league. It my take a while though.
well it depends because you can find one at sendom spring outside giratinas cave but too get it you need to start a chain of gyarados until you get a patch of water shine gold save it then go catch the red gyarados.
note it takes awhile it took me three days to find it and you also need to beat over fifty blue gyarados to have a chance at finding the shining water with the red gyarados hope i helped.

∙ 14y ago1. You must have uxie,azelf and mesprit in your party. 2. Then go to the lake near Twinleaf town. 3. Then surf to the lake cavern and use your super rod. 4. This will take probably about 20 mins. 5. On one of your bites it might be the so-called Mirage Red Gyarados. :] Hope it works for you.

you go to the lake of rage, and if you use surf to go to the middle,
there is a level 30 red gyarados. if you knock it out, (like i did) it
will reappear when you beat the pokemon league. good luck!
