Marc Chagall was a famous Belarussian-Russian-French Jewish artist, regarded as one of the most important of the 20th Century. He first studied at the studio of a realist artist, Yehuda (Yuri) Pen, but that style was not the best suited for him. Years later he studied at the Zvantseva School of Drawing and Painting, in St. Petersburg, and then in Paris at Academie de La Palette, an avant-garde art school.
