Sleeping Beauty. The other fairy is Merriweather! :)
Sleeping Beauty.
The "Disney fairies" are a group of fairies made famous from the Tinker Bell movies. The names of Tink's main friends are: Silvermist, Iridessa, Rosetta, Fawn, and Vidia. There are others, but these are the main characters. However, we cannot forget the original Disney fairies-- Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather-- from the Disney classic Sleeping Beauty!
In the Disney film, they are called Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. Flora wears red, Fauna wears green and Merryweather wears blue. The wicked fairy is called Maleficent. In Perrault's version there are 7 good fairies plus the one bad one. They don't have names. There is an adaptation for the stage in which there are twelve fairies. Their names are Caper, Chicory, Caraway, Clove, Cinnamon, Ginger, Sesame, Saffron, Poppy, Pumpkin, Paprika, and Nutmeg. The fairy godmothers don't appear in any folklore versions of the story. In fact, the they are solely movie creations. In story versions, the princess' name also varies. In Germany it is Briar Rose. It is Talia in some myths, and Rosamund in others. In movie versions she is also named Aurora.
Not in the usual sense. The Three good fairies in Sleeping beauty- called Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather in the cartoon film- and look at the costumes- were originally supposed to be Sisters Faith, Hope, and Charity! The idea of a triad of Nuns as a Good-Lady team- too religious. Walt Disney would not allow , normally, religious elements in any of his pictures or cartoons- and well to me this indicates an animus towards religion. It is said he avoided Italy as a filming site as he could not edit Churches and related structures ( Crosses, monuments) out of the landscape! ONly Disney film set in Italy was Escapade in Florence- about an art-theft ring foiled by college students on holiday. The actress Annette was in this one, a welcome change from Mickey Mouse roles. I never saw the film. Disney had an animus about religion.
This may have been done to edit out possibly controversial material in the Parent novels, such as racial or religious/political elements in many classic talesl. It can also be argued Disney had time limits to gear things down to an hour or two for two-parters and some material would have to be edited but would conserve the story line. in some cases there are different endings of the same drama. I seem to recall the Monkey ( Mr. Tubbs, not stubbs) in the drama Toby Tyler died, but somebody said there was an alternate version where he was somehow out of action in the act, but not dead- this might have been at the insistence of the ASPCA./ The version I saw on TV, the monkey died, it was not specified how, maybe a misfiring gun, as they had an act where he ( tamed) a revolver. The animal may have accidentally shot himself! and so it goes. anything remotely resembling religion was either edited out completely- like the Sisters of Charity in Sleeping Beauty= who were altered to Good Fairies- Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather= instead of Sisters Faith, Hope, and Charity who were nuns- The famous Cathedral of Saint Paul in London was a mere backdrop in Mary Poppins, and so it goes. DIsney dodged- or edited out anything religious.
