They wanted a big name to play Eliza Doolittle in the movie version of My Fair Lady and that's why they chose Audrey Hepburn instead. I'm not sure why they didn't choose another star who could actually sing. In hindsight, I'm sure they realized that Julie Andrews would've been the better choice.
