Which Pokemon do you need to defeat the Pokemon league on heartgold?

There's a variety of Pokemon that you can use to defeat the Pokemon League. But since you're on HeartGold, one Pokemon that you should have is Ho-oh. Ideally, all your Pokemon should be at least Level 46, because anything below is going to have a hard time defeating them.

Another OpinionFor Will, the First member of the Elite 4, he has 2 Xatu. Use an Electric-type Pokémon or Electric attacks against these 2. The highest level one is Level 42 so make sure your Pokémon with Electric attacks is around that level. He has a Jynx so use Fire attacks. His last Pokémon is a Slowbro so use Electric attacks. Additionally all of his Pokémon are part Psychic so you can also use Ghost or Dark attacks.

Koga has Ariados, Venomoth, Forretress, Muk and Crobat. Make sure your Pokémon are around Level 44 against him. For Ariados use Fire attacks against him. For Venomoth, use Fire or Electric. For Forretress, use Fire attacks. For Muk, use Ground or Psychic attacks and for Crobat, use Electric or Psychic attacks.

For Bruno. Most of his Pokémon are Fighting Pokémon. He has Hitmontop, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan and Machamp so just use a Ghost Pokémon that knows a Psychic attack. For his last Pokémon which is Onix you can use either a Water or Grass-type attack.

The last member of the Elite 4 has Umbreon, Vileplume, Gengar, Murkrow and Houndoom. Make sure your Pokémon are around Level 50 for this battle.

For Umbreon, just use a Fighting or a Bug-type attack. For Vileplume, use a Fire-type attack. For Gengar use a Ghost, Dark or a Psychic-type attack. For Murkrow use an Electric-type attack and for Houndoom use a Water attack.

For Lance, he has Gyarados, Aerodactyl, Charizard and 3 Dragonite. His highest level Pokémon is 1 of his Dragonite which is at Level 50 so make sure your Pokémon is a little higher than that.

For Gyarados, use an Electric attack. For Aerodactyl, use an Ice-type attack. Water would be the next best choice against Aerodactyl. Charizard, use a Rock-type attack. Electric or Water would be the next best choices against it. Against his Dragonite, use Ice or Dragon-type attacks.
