Originally this question had been answered by someone else who claimed the celebrity in question was Oprah, but that was an incorrect answer. The correct answer is Kim Basinger. She decided that she wanted the town to have movie studios and a sponsor a film festival. Her dream to turn Braselton into a tourist attraction had its beginnings when she was stuck in a traffic jam. She (and the consortium) bought the town for 20 million in 1989, but unfortunately her vision for the town never came to fruition. Five years later the town was sold for "only" one million dollars. Sadly, a while after selling the town, Ms. Basinger had to declare bankruptcy.
