Because he's a detective.
He is able to deduce things about people from a myriad of minor trifles like blemishes or stains on the hands, tattoos, clothing and the dirt they may show, or walking sticks. He can take these deductions and give confidence to his clients thereby encouraging them to share more details of their case.
Check the links belowSketches of Sherlock Holmes CharactersThe Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has sketches of Holmes' characters. But not all of them:The book mentioned above is only one of the Holmes collections. It does not contain all of the stories, so even a heavily illustrated edition would not provide the information you seek.
Some of them went on to have their own shows. Most of them have gone on to do other things now that they do not have the show.
The Sherlock Holmes illustrations of Sidney Paget are considered the best by many. He illustrated the first 37 short stories and 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' for The Strand Magazine before his untimely death, and the link below shows some of them. There is also a Sidney Paget Facebook page with all of his Sherlock Holmes drawings along with some of the others.
Sherlock Holmes' hair is raven black. This is its color in most physical appearances throughout the years, including all drawings (the traditional sketches being by Sidney Paget) and television shows such as Granada's version of the stories (starring Jeremy Brett as Holmes and David Burke/Edward Hardwicke as Watson). Only in the animated series called Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century was it a different color; that was blonde.
Sherlock is smart and perfect. Watson is kindly but not as smart. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created his character Sherlock Holmes modelling him after his teacher in the Edinburgh Medical School, Dr. Joseph Bell. So this character was created out of the elements and faculties of observation, logic, deduction and diagnosis. Dr.Watson was a shadow of Doyle's past inner self from the student days, created as an unpolished rock against which the razor of Holmes' logic could be sharpened. Holmes is pictured as a very detached and reserved person whereas Watson is kind, humane, emotional and social. Watson is not at all a fool or unclever, but he certainly can not raise himself above earthly cares whereas Holmes can abandon food and rest for days if necessary, when he is engaged in a mind blowing puzzle the solving of which needs him being just a weight of nerves. Watson is straight forward and simple and just can not enter the mind of a criminal as his famous companion does. Nor can he invent ingeneous tricks like Holmes to trap adversaries.

Outlines of shadows of a figure. a silhoette shows the outline detail of something but nothing in the thing in detail e.g. showing a outline of a persons face but with no specifis detail in the face - compltely black for example
This cannot be answered. This question does not have enough detail.
A large scale map (covers a small area) shows more detail as there is more space to show detail. A small scale map (covers a large area or even a whole country, etc) doesn't have much space, so any detail is either shrunk or even omitted altogether.
