I'm doing a report on the different social standards dealing with sexuality from the 1950's to now. It is very interesting to find information on this. One thing I have found that I know for sure is that Hugh Hefner and Marilyn Monroe changed society with the first Playboy magazine in December of 1953 (the first and only issue without a bunny on it because Hefner did not know if there would be a second issue, obviously there was). Marilyn Monroe was the sex goddess of the 50's and it was proven with the nude picture in Playboy. By posing nude and letting the picture be published in a magazine that sold millions of copies, Marilyn Monroe went against the social role that was set for women during those times. She took the house-wife, perfect, do everything for your husband image and threw it out the window after lighting it on fire! Men were forced to acknowledge women as a sexual being as well as a house keeper and child bearer. From the day that issue of Playboy came out society has kept changing. Now look how far pornography has come. Take a look at the conduct code that was set for TV programs in the 50's and you will be able to tell that 90% of our TV programs now would not have been approved then.

Her shocking and mysterious death caused a very big sensation world wide, which froze her in time and made her an everlasting superstar. A great Icon and Legend. Who now has a status that is imposible to compete with. One of the greatest Hollywood superstars. She gained respect and sympathy after her death, too. Many thing made her that big and she will always be at the very top. As the saying goes: "when a person first gained a legendary status, thereis no turning back, they will always stay on the very spot."

She made us question our police force's actions, and the purity of the Kennedys. She made us fear the power that people have, the higher in society they are. She has shown women you can be beautiful, graceful, and that you don't necessarily always need to display those talents. She showed us that a woman is allowed to have spunk, and just how attractive it could make a woman to have a personality of her own.

Some may even have had their fears of breaking out of their shells deepened after the questioning of Marilyn's death. Her styles will forever be remembered and looked back on as the ideal balance of elegance and desire. Her picture is up in anywhere from Pizza Hut to the finest restaurant in California. She has set the bar for women everywhere. She will forever be a legend.
