In the series, they live with their uncle, Count Olaf, another uncle named Uncle Monty, their Aunt Josephine, a dorm in a lumbermill, in a dorm at a prep school, a condo, a carnival, a cave, a submarine, a hotel, and an island.

The Baudelaire's parents were killed when their home was burned to the ground. Throughout the series there is speculation that one of them may have survived the fire, later believed to be their father. However they never found out if this was the case.
