The movie projector was invented by Edison in 1888, but Eastman was one of the first to invent the camera in 1830. Film was not used in the first cameras. Instead a glass plate was coated with chemicals and then exposed by the photographer to light. A negative image was then on the plate and from there a photo was created. Later, tin was used instead of glass. Many of the glass plates were recycled for windows and green houses later so a great deal of early photos have been lost due to fading and bleaching by the sun. Film came about in the early 1900's and was made from a early form of plastic, but the plastic we know today is much different than the first plastics. Alexander Parks invented the first man made plastic in 1862. It was made from an organic material derived from cellulose.
