fat Julian was the happy kid who surfed surfside, Galveston, the Easter contests at isabel, etc. in the late 60's, showing some whacky, crusty, cartoon-style paintings at earth leather on west Alabama jn Houston and maybe hanging them on the side of buildings at occasional art fairs downtown. i vaguely remember smoking some pot in his old Chrysler while the crowd banged around to the music, maybe later visiting his house. i remember him as a better surfer than people want to believe, with a taste for racier styled surfboards, much like myself, which we probably both acquired cheaply or for free as members of the bay surf shop surf team in Houston. the good old gulf coast surf days. mike Lawrence, pat shugart, many others dead and gone now, but i still stand witness and remain witness, and artist also, here in encinitas, California, where it still pounds in on the sand everyday. billystewart2010@gmail.com
