James Gordon Bennett was a Newspaper magnate and something of a ( Donald Trump) type of expatriate Publicity Hound- he lived in Paris much of his life and managed the N.Y. World and the related Parisian paper Le Monde ( means the same thing) It was a matter of some controversy that Mr. Bennett got his picture in on the modern newspaper scene int he four murals of the 9 history of the printed word) in the New York Public Library. Bennett was still alive at the time- and this was ( not done) at the time. the other murals all have religious themes- Moses and the Ten commandments, medieval Monks- The Gutenberg Bible- then the one modern one- the contemporary(l9ll) newspaper scene, from top ( editor) to middle-management ( pressmen and linotype operator- to newsboy on the streets- only problem was Mr. Bennett was visibly portrayed- and he was alive at the time. something of a scandal no relaiton to Navy Pilot Floyd Bennett of airfield fame- he flew with Admiral Byrd.
