Isildur was the son of the High King of the Faithful Exiles, the Dunedain of Arnor and Gondor. The High King was Elendil Elf-friend, who perished at the hand of Sauron. Isildur was the one who stole seeds from the Tree of Numenor to take to Middle-earth, but he suffered terrible wounds. However, as the first seed blossomed, he was healed. When the Faithful first came to Middle-earth, Isildur and his brother Anarion ruled Gondor, while their father Elendil ruled the Northern Kingdom of Arnor. As Sauron attacked Gondor, Isildur went north for help. As the Last Alliance overthrew Sauron, it was Isildur who cut the ring from his hand, and kept it for his own. Stopping only in Minas Anor, Tower of the Sun, to write some notes, Isildur carried onward to his kingdom of Arnor. However, at the Gladden Fields he was ambushed, and as he tried to escape to the river, the orcs shot him and he died.
