A native of Jiangsu (a province of the peoples Republic of China), he was a Catholic Father, and painter. He was very good in water painting. His pen name was 'Ink-Well'. Becoming a Catholic in 1675, Wu assumed the Christian name Simon. In 1681, Wu joined a Christian Missionary and preached in Macao. Wu studied the Latin language, philosophy and theology. In 1688, Wu was consecrated byLuo Wenzao and became one of the three earliest Chinese Fathers in China. Later, Wu preached in Shanghai, and Jiading. He died in Shanghai in 1718.
