Negi Springfield is the protagonist of Ken Akamatsu's genre-crossing manga series, Magister Negi Magi / Mahou Sensei Negima / Negima. At the start of the series he was Valediction of a graduating class of 5 from Merdania Magic Academy at the age of 9. His assigned task to obtain full license as a Magister Magi was to teach English at Mahora Academy.
Negi Springfield is also the son of the Thousand Master, Nagi Springfield, and thus has a similar amount of magical potential, although far more studious than his father. Negi is something of a genius at magic, having studied more advanced spells in the Forbidden Archives, including one to deal with high-level demons. His speciality, however, is Linguistics: besides the Latin in which many 'Negima' incantations are made, he studied Japanese in about two weeks.
