The animated Disney film The Lady and the Tramp was loosely, based on a book called Happy Dan, The Whistling Dog by Ward Greene. It was first published in the 1940s in Cosmopolitan Magazine.
The book, subsequently retitled as "The Lady and the Tramp, the story of two dogs" it was published Disney in 1953. Its most recent incarnation is published by Simon and Schuster of New York
