Thomas Cranmer, the Archbishop of Canterbury, was not killed in 1536; he was executed in 1556 during the reign of Queen Mary I. His execution was part of the Marian persecutions, as he was a leading figure of the English Reformation and opposed Catholic restoration. Cranmer was tried for heresy and was ultimately burned at the stake.

Henry viii did like Thomas Cramner. This was because he allowed Henry to have a divorce with Catherine of Aragon. Mary wasn't very happy with Thomas for splitting up her parents, so when she was Queen, she had him killed. The end.
Henry VIII elevated Thomas Cramner to Archbishop of Canterbury and it was Cramner who took care of the divorce from Katherine of Aragon and carried out Henry's plans for the English Church.
