The Buckinghams are an American pop rock band who first hit the national record charts in 1966 with their number one hit, "Kind of a Drag" on Chicago's USA Records. Original members include Carl Giammarese (guitar, vocals), Nick Fortuna (bass, vocals), John Poulos (drums), Dennis Miccolis (keyboards, vocals), Dennis Tufano (vocals), and George LeGros (vocals). LeGros left the group to enter the US Army in 1966. Marty Grebb replaced Miccolis on keyboards and vocals in 1967. The Buckinghams signed with Columbia Records and released multiple hit singles including "Don't You Care," "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy," "Hey Baby They're Playing Our Song," and "Susan." Two memorable albums "Time and Charges" and "Portraits" were released in 1967 and 1968, produced by the band's manager, James William Guercio. The Buckinghams headlined major concerts and were also part of several successful rock tours, with artists including Gene Pitney, the Beach Boys, Tom Jones, The Who, Jose Feliciano, and others. The Buckinghams were featured artists on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, American Bandstand, The Jerry Lewis Show, and began their TV career on All Time Hits, the first hour-long show broadcast in color on Chicago's WGN-TV. The Buckinghams were popular recording and performing artists from 1965-1970. In 1982 Carl Giammarese (lead vocals, guitar), and Nick Fortuna (bass, vocals) committed to touring fulltime as The Buckinghams. Giammarese and Fortuna were joined by Tom Scheckel (drums), Bob Abrams (guitar, vocals), and Bruce Soboroff (keyboards, vocals) and this has been the band's lineup continuously since 1986. In addition to performing in theatres, festivals, casinos and private corporate events, The Buckinghams headlined the "Twilight on the Prairie Ball" for the 2005 Presidential Inauguration and are scheduled to repeat this honor for the 2009 Presidential Inaugural at the Illinois State Ball, at the Grand Hyatt Washington Hotel, January 20, 2009.
