Daniel Radcliffe's father is a casting agent and knew the producer, David Heyman, who at the theatre one night asked Radcliffe to audition for the role. Originally, his parents did not want him to audition although eventually he was allowed and, after a successful audition, the director Christopher Columbus chose him.
