Viking times lasted a couple of centuries, so there was a long line of Saxon kings, including the brilliant Alfred, but most of them so boring that there are no longer any professors of Saxon History at English universities!

Harold the Second was notable for driving off the last of the Vikings, and then hurrying down to Hastings where he was killed in 1066.
