Many well known people were alive during Franklin Roosevelt's time, some famous, some infamous. His wife, Eleanor Roosevelt, did a great deal for the country and was a role model among many women to show that they had just as much to offer as men did. Albert Einstein fled to America to escape Nazi Germany during World War II and being a genius scientist and mathematician, helped develop the first atomic bomb that would end the war for Japan and give America victory. Adolf Hitler, dictator of Germany, initiated World War II and envisioned a world dominated by the Aryan race. Because of his hatred for all other races, he brought about the deaths of twelve million innocent people. Although Joseph Stalin, dictator of Russia, was considered an ally to the United States, he caused even more deaths than Hitler and created a Communist state that would eventually become the enemy of the USA in the Cold War. Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of Great Britain, proved to be an essential ally to the United States and like FDR, saved his nation by defeating the Axis Powers. Franklin Roosevelt's time was a period of fierce, aggressive rulers and leaders who either positively or negatively affected the world greatly.
