The closest theme of Journey to the Center of the Earth, in my opinion, is sacrifice for success. The story deals with a scientist- a geologist and his companions journey to the lower levels of the planet- using primitive techniques- not vehicles (odd for gadget-oriented Verne) and the encounters with prehistoric life.
