He wanted to back out of being a death eater because he believed what Voldemort was doing was wrong and he tried to kill his house elf (Kreacher). He talks about his own death in the note because he knows that once he drinks from the lake the inferi will drag him down and he will drown.

When does Ron Weasley say 'We don't want another Doby'?

He says it in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (7th and last book of the series), during the final battle at Hogwarts, right after Ron and Hermione come back from the Chamber of Secret. The idea is that he doesn't want to force the house-elves to fight for the wizards, against Lord Voldemort.

Is Malfoy on the good side or bad side in Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows?

Throughout the series he has always been bad, but looking at the way Voldemort has used his family and his home, I guess he is scared of Voldemort as he rightly should be. His father has been disgraced and is looking to gain favour with Voldemort again and prehaps saw an opportunity by having Voldemort use his mansion as a base of operations. Even Narcissa, Draco's mother, seems to be scared even from the beginning of the 6th book. Draco rebels against Voldemort in his own way when Harry, Ron and Hermione are brought back to the mansion by the Snatchers. Even though he knew Ron and Hermione and could therefore guess that the other person was Harry, even with the Stinging Jinx in place, he still said that he couldn't be sure which would have undoubtably given Harry time to think of what to try and do to escape when put into the cellar.
