Charlie Chaplin was exiled by the U.S. Government, because it feared his anti-war and humanitarian politics. His is and was, the voice of the poor, and the silenced majority. McCartheys witch hunters could not silence his message of peace, and truth and outside of the U.S. he is adored and honored for his immeasurable contributions to humanity. Shame on the U.S.!!!

Well, considering how popular Chaplin was it seems improbable that all of America would simply dislike him or boycott his pictures because America disagreed with his message of peace and truth (we shouldn't oversimplify, it's unbecoming). What is truth to you or me or Chaplin? (rhetorical question) Perhaps his mode or choice of expressing his political opinion in a country in which he was not a citizen was part of the problem? My family travels to France a great deal and I have opinions about what I see there. However, I have the good sense and decorum to keep my opinions to myself. France isn't my country and I am not one of its citizens. I'm not coming over to your house to inform you of needed improvements with your household/child care etc etc. There are more Hollywood actors who need to pay more attention to Chaplin's fate. It's sad really. Such a great talent probably had much more to offer in the world of entertainment. Statistically, actors who avoid politics altogether have more longevity in Hollywood.
