Here's a dirty little secret: once you're an adult, no one is going to care what grades you got in elementary school. Colleges are only going to look at your high school record, and employers are going to be primarily concerned with your most recent schooling (high school, college, or graduate school).
You might be inclined to conclude from this that it really doesn't matter what grades you get in elementary school, but there are a couple of reasons it still could end up making a difference.
If you are applying to one of the more exclusive sorts of private high schools, or if your school district has multiple high schools that you could potentially go to, then the more desirable ones will obviously want to see good grades from elementary school to decide if you're worth giving one of their limited spaces to or not.
Even if you're continuing in the public education system and there's only one high school in your district so they haveto take you, what courses you get to choose from may depend on your prior performance. If you've been failing math, you'll probably get put in the "math for dummies" track as opposed to the "college prep math" track, and that's not going to look good to colleges later on.
