Tom Cruise, as you may have heard, is a devout Scientologist. He has made the mistake of marrying a series of three women who were not Scientologists, in the expectation that he could convert them. But instead, he wound up offending them to the point that they could no longer live with him. Religious fanaticism has its disadvantages.

While I do not know Mr. Cruise, I can say from knowing other celebrities that some are very driven by ego, very self-absorbed, and very focused on their career. Historically, movie stars have often been divorced (sometimes two or three times) because they are so accustomed to being treated like stars that they have no idea how to have a relationship based on give-and-take. It takes a very special person to stay married to a celebrity, and evidently, Mr. Cruise has not found the ideal woman-- someone who can meet the standards he sets and embrace the kind of expectations he has.

Of course it is true that celebrities in general often have unsuccessful marriages; for example, Elizabeth Taylor was married 8 times. Tom Cruise, in comparison, has had only 3 unsuccessful marriages so far, although of course there may be more to come. There is nothing unusual about a celebrity with 3 failed marriages.

But cultism does matter in the life of Tom Cruise. He is not just a cultist, he is probably the most influential cultist in the world. It is expected that he would actually take over the Church of Scientology in the event that David Miscavige should ever relinquish control.
